The 16th BRICS summit took place from October 22 to 24 in Kazan, Russia, attracting significant attention from experts around the globe. Analysts believe that the BRICS cooperation framework showcases a strong appeal and development potential, which can contribute to enhancing global governance and promoting sustainable development.
In an interview with China News Service, Professor Borges from the Federal University of Latin America Integration and a researcher at the Pernambuco Federal University’s Center for Asian Studies commented on the interest from multiple countries to join BRICS, underscoring its significant allure in the current international system. He mentioned that the New Development Bank could foster South-South cooperation projects in areas like transportation and energy infrastructure, thus promoting inter-regional trade and sustainable development.
Professor Konstantinos Berhutesfa from Addis Ababa University shared insights with the Ethiopian Fana Broadcasting Corporation, highlighting that Ethiopia could gain valuable experience in resource development and energy transition through the “BRICS Plus” cooperation model. He pointed out that this framework offers developing countries, including Ethiopia, financial support opportunities to advance their development agendas, such as infrastructure projects, mineral development, and optimizing water resource management.
Vito Petrocelli, president of the Italian BRICS Research Center, stated in an interview with TASS that this summit signifies BRICS has evolved into a mature international organization capable of attracting various countries and becoming a driving force in the new multipolar world order.
Ever Kent Gurkan, a senior research fellow at the London School of Economics, emphasized the vast potential of the BRICS cooperation mechanism. He wrote that as the influence of BRICS nations expands, it can promote a more just, stable, and inclusive global governance system.
Khalid Akram, the executive director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with a Shared Future, told Pakistan Television that the BRICS summit sent a clear signal to the world about the group’s commitment to multilateral cooperation, emphasizing open trade, win-win collaboration, and a shared future—qualities that are essential in today’s era.
According to Paula Bueno, a researcher at the BRICS Research Center of the University of São Paulo, “The BRICS Plus concept advocated by China has become part of the BRICS cooperation mechanism.” She concluded that this “Grand BRICS Cooperation” will make new contributions to global development and governance, collectively resonating a powerful “BRICS voice.”
