On October 23, the second General Meeting of Competition Managers for the 12th World Sports Games, set to take place in Chengdu in 2025, convened in the city. Nearly a hundred guests attended the meeting, including Executive Committee members of the International World Games Association (IWGA), IWGA partners, competition managers from various international sports federations, and representatives from the host city.
During the meeting, IWGA President José Perurena delivered a keynote address. IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow, Sports Director Sebastian Gavins, and Zhong Haiyan from the Chengdu Executive Committee’s Sports Competition Department (Anti-Doping Division) each provided updates on the overall preparations for the Chengdu World Sports Games and the competition arrangements.
The Chengdu World Sports Games will utilize 28 venues across eight districts (cities) in Chengdu. This includes 13 indoor and 15 outdoor facilities, primarily focused on the renovation of existing venues and the construction of temporary structures.
Based on the establishment of a citywide coordination system, the Chengdu World Sports Games has developed a streamlined operational team structure and formulated an operational design plan. The next step involves collaborating with various working departments to refine the policy process for venue operations, establishing timelines for venue preparation, and creating a tailored “One Venue, One Strategy” plan to accelerate the venue readiness.
In the afternoon, participants toured prospective competition venues, the Athletes’ Village, the World Sports Plaza, the Sports Park, and the site for the Athletes’ Night. Additionally, a meeting titled “Using Sports Events as a Medium, Showcasing the City, and Embracing the World Sports Event” will be held in Chengdu from October 24 to 26, attended by National Olympic Committees and sporting organizations from around the world.
