LeBron James and his son Bronny have been making headlines since they became teammates this summer, especially with the upcoming season opener raising questions about whether they’ll take the court together. During a media day interview, Bronny shared that spending all day with his dad has made him feel like they’ve had too much quality time together. He admitted that after practice, he often just wants to get away from LeBron.
The Lakers selected Bronny in the second round of the draft, fulfilling LeBron’s dream of playing alongside his son. Many media outlets believe that fans will get to witness the father-son duo in action in the Lakers’ season opener against the Timberwolves. However, renowned reporter Shams Charania indicated that Bronny might spend a significant amount of time in the G League this season, moving between the NBA and the developmental league.
Reflecting on the dream of becoming teammates, LeBron noted that his focus sometimes wavers during practice because of Bronny’s presence. “For me, it’s pure joy, but I can only speak for myself. I’m proud of him,” LeBron said. “In the past week or two, there have been times during individual drills when I’ve got distracted by watching him. He’s a young man, and he’s ready.”
However, LeBron also mentioned that their interactions at home aren’t particularly deep. “He often comes downstairs to grab a snack and then heads back to his room to play video games. Kids his age don’t really engage in deep conversations with their dads,” he explained.
Bronny added with a laugh that their new teammate status has led to an overload of time spent together. “After practice, we definitely don’t want to be around each other. We spend way too much time together, so once we’re done, I try to get as far away from him as possible.”
