Dong Jun held talks with the Russian Defense Minister

On October 14, China’s Ministry of Defense reported that Defense Minister Dong Jun held talks in Beijing with his visiting Russian counterpart, Minister Shoigu.

During the discussions, Dong emphasized that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. He noted that the friendship between the two nations has withstood the test of time and has grown stronger. Under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, relations between China and Russia have reached an all-time high, exemplifying a model of great power relations characterized by deep mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation. Dong expressed the need for the militaries of both nations to deepen their strategic collaboration, enhance the effectiveness of their cooperation, and continue to advance their relationships, steadfastly defending their shared interests and jointly maintaining global strategic stability.

In response, Shoigu highlighted that military cooperation between Russia and China is a vital factor in maintaining global and regional peace and stability. He affirmed Russia’s commitment to working closely with China to implement the important consensus reached by their leaders, while continuously enhancing the quality and level of their cooperation to address security challenges and elevate military relations to new heights.

Prior to the talks, Dong hosted a welcome ceremony for Shoigu and accompanied him in reviewing the People’s Liberation Army honor guard.
