Indonesia’s new President Prabowo sworn in

On October 20, Indonesia’s newly elected president, Prabowo Subianto, was sworn into office, marking the beginning of his administration. Alongside him, the newly elected vice president, Gibran, also took his oath on the same day.

At 73 years old, Prabowo has a long history of military service, previously serving as Indonesia’s Minister of Defense. He ran for the presidency twice before, in 2014 and 2019, but was defeated by Jokowi (Joko Widodo) both times.

The election for the Indonesian presidency took place on February 14, 2024, with the final vote counting results released by the Indonesian Election Commission on March 20. Prabowo emerged victorious in the election, and on April 24, the Commission officially declared him as Indonesia’s eighth president.
