Practice calligraphy and learn tea art, Chinese culture -fans- new international tennis stars

On the evening of October 15, a unique calligraphy class took place in Chengdu, where players from around the world who are participating in the 2024 ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of traditional Chinese culture. This activity not only allowed them to relax but also to approach the upcoming competition with renewed energy.

Participants watched intently as the calligraphy teacher elegantly handled the brush, and it wasn’t long before the eager players and coaches were ready to give it a try. However, for many, this was their first time using a brush, and they didn’t know where to start. Under the teacher’s guidance, they quickly got the hang of it, skillfully mimicking the strokes and creating their own pieces. By the end of the class, they not only learned to write “巴适” (a Sichuan term meaning comfortable), but they also joyfully exclaimed, “成都巴适得板!” (meaning Chengdu is extremely comfortable).

Romanian player Luka Prida excitedly presented his work to his teammates, snapping photos to commemorate the moment. He proudly declared that he had created a “masterpiece,” stating that “巴适” perfectly captured his impression of Chengdu.

While some players focused on calligraphy, others delved into the art of Chinese tea ceremony, led by a knowledgeable instructor. The players were captivated by the fluidity of the tea-making process and praised the rich flavors and aromas of the tea. More importantly, they gained a deeper understanding of the harmony, tranquility, and wisdom embedded in Chinese tea culture.

As athletes from diverse backgrounds engaged in these traditional cultural experiences, they bonded and shared laughter, creating unforgettable memories of their youthful journey together. The immersion in Chinese culture not only enhanced their understanding of the host city but also fostered connections among the players.
