In an interview with local officials and cultural representatives, we explored how Chongqing’s Rongchang District is integrating “Tongxin” united front culture into everyday life.
Recently, the Rongchang government revealed a series of initiatives designed to embed the “Tongxin” spirit—translated as “unity of purpose”—within the community. These initiatives include a theme song, a newly established park, and several cultural outreach efforts, creating a sense of connection and strength among residents.
One of the highlights is the newly launched song titled “Tongxin Huakai” (Blossoming Together), introduced during an event on September 19. This original piece, crafted by local artists, has quickly resonated with the public. Its catchy melody and relatable lyrics inspired many people at the city square to join in the singing, showcasing how art can be a powerful medium for cultural unity.
Qin Xingjian, a member of the Rongchang District Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, emphasized the importance of united front culture as a key element of socialism. He said that a song like “Tongxin Huakai” not only fosters community spirit but also serves as a morale booster.
According to Yin Xianhua, the song’s lyricist and President of the Rongchang District Literary Federation, the lyrics encapsulate the essence of “Tongxin.” Composer Xiong Erkang echoed this sentiment, highlighting that the song aims to bridge local experiences with broader national cultural narratives, inviting everyone to embrace the concept of unity in their daily lives.
Another significant initiative is Tongxin Park, which features a prominent circular art installation. Visitors can stroll along pathways enriched with displays that narrate the history of united front culture. An intelligent guiding system ensures that stories from this cultural heritage are seamlessly incorporated into everyday experiences.
Since its inception in April 2023, the park has become a focal point for community engagement, showcasing 12 unique spots that celebrate the history and significance of the united front through various artistic mediums, including sculptures and calligraphy.
“Tongxin Park embodies the efforts of Rongchang District to cultivate unity, promote social harmony, and gather collective strength for regional development,” Qin stated. Additionally, the district has established other cultural institutions and introduced themed tours like the “Tangcheng Tongxin Journey,” aimed at further embedding this culture into the community’s fabric. Looking ahead, officials plan to deepen the experience of united front culture and ensure its relevance in modern society.
