In recent days, workers at a labor-based relief project in Jingui Town, Yongxing County, Hunan Province, have been utilizing masonry techniques to construct retaining walls, aimed at reinforcing and stabilizing the slopes in the area.
As local resident Chen Daoqun from Shuimi Village shared, “This policy is excellent. Not only has it improved our hometown, but it has also provided job opportunities that allow people to leverage their labor and increase their income, achieving a win-win situation.”
In recent years, Yongxing County has seized the opportunity presented by the national labor-based relief project to enhance and optimize local infrastructure while offering nearby employment opportunities to boost residents’ incomes. This effort aims to solidify and expand poverty alleviation achievements and promote rural revitalization.
The ongoing project in Jingui Town has a total investment of 5.56 million yuan, covering various aspects including land leveling, mechanized access roads, irrigation channels, and road hardening, with an expected completion date set for December this year. The initiative not only addresses the weak infrastructure issues faced by eight villages in Jingui Town but also provides local residents with nearby job opportunities.
According to the project leader, since its launch, the initiative has created nearly 150 jobs, projecting a total labor compensation of 1.766 million yuan. So far, 910,000 yuan has been disbursed, effectively increasing residents’ income and improving their living conditions.
As a comprehensive policy that integrates infrastructure building, employment promotion, income distribution, disaster relief, and regional development, the labor-based relief project encourages local community participation in construction efforts, allowing participants to earn wages and achieve both employment and infrastructure development goals.
Yongxing County is committed to not just providing immediate assistance but also equipping locals with skills for long-term employment. In collaboration with farmer training schools, the county has organized diverse skill training programs to help workers learn about safety awareness, construction techniques, and machinery operation. This initiative aims to facilitate their transformation from laborers to skilled workers, enhancing their job competitiveness.
Many workers have expressed their gratitude for the training, stating, “Through the training, we’ve not only acquired more specialized skills but also improved our safety awareness, laying a solid foundation for future employment.”
As of now, Yongxing County has trained over 200 participants. Chen Daoqun concluded, “By mastering these skills, I now feel more confident about finding work.”
