The New York Chinese Women Writers Association recently celebrated its eighth anniversary in Flushing, coinciding with the 2024 New York Traditional Chinese Medicine Cultural Festival. The event attracted a large crowd, featuring an exhibition of artworks and talent performances that showcased the artistic abilities of the association’s members. Highlights included recitations, singing, dancing, and traditional Beijing opera, offering a captivating array of entertainment.
Nancy, the new president of the association, shared that Gu Yuehua founded the organization in 2016 with the goal of uniting and enhancing the influence of women in literature and the arts. She described the members as ambitious women who not only love life and reading but also exhibit exceptional passion for writing and artistic creation.
Over the past eight years, the association has hosted numerous enriching literary and cultural events, including book launches and various artistic activities, and has even established a high-class e-magazine. Gu Yuehua expressed her excitement at the flourishing literary scene among young women in New York, noting that she and her friends were inspired to create the association to elevate women’s roles in literary creation and cultural exchange. She looks forward to seeing new president Nancy lead the new board in implementing a series of innovative literary initiatives.
